Ganga Mashaal starts Journey from Uttarakhand

The Ganga Mashaal started its journey, formally from Rishikesh and Haridwar in Uttarakhand on November 8, 2021.

Mashaal will travel to a total of 23 stations along river Ganga.

It will help in sensitization of local people and Namami Gange volunteers.

Journey will be supported by District Administration, field volunteers such as Ganga Vichar Manch, Ganga Praharis, Ganga Doot (NYKS), Ganga Mitras.

Mashaal is being carried by the brave men of Ganga Task Force (GTF).

The journey will end up at Ganga Sagar in West Bengal.

Union Minister of Law and , Kiren Rijiju and Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, flagged off the Ganga Mashaal from New Delhi, during Ganga Utsav on November 3, 2021.

Ganga Mashal was welcomed at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh. It was followed by lighting of the lamp, Saraswati Vandana, Nukkad Natak on Swachhta, Ganga Aarti, and other cultural performances by school children & youth from National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS).

Ganga Mashaal was welcomed by WAPCOS and Wildlife Institute of India, in Haridwar.

She had completed three years in office as the Uttarakhand governor last month.
She has the distinction of being the first woman mayor of Agra from 1995 to 2000.

The Peyjal Minister Bishan Singh Chufal has said that the water coming out from natural water courses during the rainy season should be tapped for drinking water supplies. He said that water tanks should be constructed to store this water which can be used in lean season and the village panchayats should be involved in the project.

The minister also reviewed the progress of Jal Jivan Mission in the meeting. Later talking to the media persons, the minister said that rain water can be stored in huge tanks of 2.5 lakh litre capacity and this water can be used for drinking purposes in lean season. He said that the officers of the department were asked to conduct a survey of water requirements during May 15 to June 15 and prepare DPRs for the different projects. The minister said that officials have been asked to submit the DPRs till the end of this month so that the work on the project will start in the month of September.

On the Jal Jivan Mission, he said that 15.17 lakh water connections have been made and out of them 6.80 lakh have been connected with water sources.

He said that in the second phase the remaining connections would be linked with the source. The minister exuded confidence that the Har Ghar Nal ( Drinking water connection in every household) would be completed in the year 2023. The secretary Peyjal Nitesh Jha, additional secretary Peyjal Nitin Bhadauria and others were present in the meeting chaired by the minister.

Affecting the first of the expected major changes a day after assuming charge as the Chief Minister, the State Government under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami appointed SS Sandhu as the States new Chief Secretary on Monday. Previous Chief Secretary Om Prakash has been posted as the resident commissioner in Delhi.

A 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (Ias) officer, Sandhu was on deputation to the Centre as the chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

He has served earlier in the Uttarakhand as the vice chairman of Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and the principal secretary in Uttarakhand before going to Delhi on deputation.

Childrens traffic parks to come up in Dehradun & Haridwar

The work of opening childrens traffic parks to raise awareness among the children about the traffic rules has gained intensity with the State transport department having already identified lands for these parks in Dehradun and Haridwar. The State transport department officers said that efforts are on to identify lands for such parks in other districts of the State.

With the steady spike in road accidents across the State, it is being increasingly felt that a mass awareness campaign should be launched to spread awareness among the common people about the imperative of conforming to the traffic rules to avert accidents. The State transport department officers say that the accidents principally happen due to the scant importance given by the people to the road safety rules.

The objective behind this move is to spread traffic rule awareness among the students playfully. Direction was given to the district transport officers to earmark lands for the park project in their respective districts.

Uttarakhand mulls climate budget, to sanction separate funds for environment-friendly activities

TheUttarakhandgovernment is mulling to introduce the provision of Climate BUDGETING from next financial year in order to counter adverse effects of global environmental changes in the Himalayan state. If the proposal pitched by the forest and Environment department goes through, Uttarakhand will be among the first states to come up with separate funds for activities related to mitigation of adverse impact of .

To recall, the Uttarakhand government in March this year had presented a Rs 57,400 crore budget for the 2021-22 fiscal in which Rs 455 crore had been earmarked for the environment.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurates ‘Smart Schools, Smart Blocks’ programme

Dhami inaugurated the Sampark ‘Smart Schools,Smart Blocks’ programme at a function organised in Champawat. He distributed TV sets, Maths and English kits to schools in Champavat block, provided by Sampark Foundation.

The goal of the programme is to improve Learning outcomes for 5,484 children by training 274 teachers in 137 schools of Champavat block. After 100 days of successful implementation, the programme will be extended to Khrishu block of Pauri district, in a time-bound manner, he added. With the help of this programme, government schools will be able to compete with private ones, Dhami said.
The programme will focus on using the learning Resources to make classroom learning joyful for the students. The Sampark team will also ensure development of capabilities of the teachers to make TEACHING systematic and easy, said Vineet Nayar, chairman of Sampark.

Faced with a challenge to combat the contagion of Covid 19 which has now spread to the rural areas, the state government has decided to implement a decentralised Covid care system in Uttarakhand. Informing about the plan, the Health secretary Amit Singh Negi told media persons here on Monday that under the new system one Covid Care Centre would be set up in every block of the state. He said that every block would also have a control room and arrangement of manpower for the CCC and control rooms would be made. Negi said that efforts are being made to operate mobile testing labs which would visit villages for collecting samples.

He claimed that in the last one month, a total of 2600 Oxygen supported beds, 678 ICU and 192 ventilators have been added in the Health system. Now we have 6000 oxygen beds, 1495 ICU beds, 983 ventilators, 1500 oxygen concentrators and more than 10000 oxygen cylinders in the state, he said.

Amid fears that the burden of cess on water being used to generate hydro power inHimachal Pradeshwould finally be passed onto thecommonpeople, the state government on Sunday said that it has imposed water cess only on hydro-power projects of the state and it will not put any financial burden on the common people.

The implementation of water cess was aimed to increase the states revenue and strengthen its economy, so that sufficient funds would be available for welfare schemes.
