Rural and Urban Olympics to start from June 23

The first edition of Rajiv GandhiUrbanOlympic Games and second edition ofRural Olympic Gameswill start from June 23, announcedRajasthansports ministerAshok Chandna. He also inaugurated the web portal for players’ registration for theRural Gameswhich is now operational for use.

“Last year, a budget of Rs 40 crore was sanctioned by the , while this year Rs 130 crore has been set aside for the two Games which will be flagged off on International Olympic Day (June 23) and conclude on International Sport Day (August 26). TheUrban Gamesand Rural Games will be organised at three and four levels respectively,” the Sports minister said.

Earlier theUrban Olympicswere scheduled for January 26, but things did not materialize. Around 9.50 lakh people registered for the same and those names will be added to the news entries which will come once registration portal for the urban Games reopens. “We will restart the registration process for the Urban Olympics very soon,” the sports minister said.

Rajasthan government inks solar deals worth over Rs 3 lakh crore

Strengthening its reputation as the leading hub for ,Rajasthangovernment signed Investment agreements of Rs 3.05 lakh crore with eight companies including public sector companies power companies like NTPC, NHPC, SjVN, THPC and SECI.

The government also entered into agreements with private sector companies including Reliance, Axis Energy and SAEL.
The largest investment commitment has come from Reliance which has announced to invest Rs 1 lakh crore in the areas of solar power generation and power transmission.

This was part of State Government‘s proposed investment summit – Invest Rajasthan – which has already attracted investment of more than Rs 7 lakh crore out of which around Rs 5 lakh crore are in the renewable sector.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot said the state government would facilitate the companies to realise their investment plans.

Garment exports shrink 30% as slowdown hits Europe, US

Garment exporters are feeling the heat of economic slowdown in Europe and the US with exports falling as much 30% and reducing capacity utilisation.

The economic slowdown has affected all the garment exporting countries, but the impact is more on India because of traditional inefficiencies.

Export-oriented units are operating on Average at around 70% of capacity.

Reduced tax on buying latest machines, skills development in the sector, easy availability of raw materials and creating centre of excellencies are some of the major points to be looked for.

Rs 4.3 crore AYUSH hospital inaugurated in Jaipur

n the occasion ofNational Ayurveda Day, the integrated AYUSH hospital was inaugurated by Health minister Raghu Sharma atPratap Nagar.
The hospital, built at a cost of Rs 4.36 crore, will have facilities of treatment in ayurveda, homeopathy and unani.

Such AYUSH hospitals are also coming upAjmer, Bhilwara, Bikaner,Sikarand Churu.
Sharma said Rs 3.39 crore will be spent on equipment and furniture in the coming days.

Jaipur: NGT bans business activities at Nahargarh fort

TheNational Green Tribunal(NGT), Bhopal, has banned all commercial activities, including restaurant, hotel and bar, inNahargarhFort located in the Nahargarh Wildlife Sanctuary (NWS) of the city on Monday The tribunal has called business activities illegal and ordered them to stop operations as they are non-Forestry activity.

In the PIL, listed on January 18 this year, the petitioner had alleged that commercial activities were going on in the forest area, including serving liquor and construction of parking lot, at the fort. The fort belongs to the archaeology department and commercial activities are being run by the RTDC. The NGT took cognizance of increase in movement of people and night tourism activities in the area. In 1961, the Nahargarh forest was declared as a reserve area, on the basis of which the forest department was given the right of control it,

Rural Games to be held in November: Rajasthan sports minister Ashok Chandna

The plans to start theRural GamesinRajasthanare ready to be executed.State Sports ministerAshok Chandna announced November to be the time of the year when the games will be held in 11341 gram panchayats and 44795 revenue villages.

The purpose behind holding the games is to develop the sporting culture and bring out talent from rural Rajasthan and the Ashok Gehlot government has already allotted Rs 30 crore for the same in the budget 2021-22.

Events in six games – volleyball, shooting ball, hockey, kho kho, tennis ball cricket and kabaddi, will be organised following theCovid-19protocols of the Central and the .
Moreover, there will be a designated application for the Rural Games where participating villages will have to register themselves and upload information about their teams.

To control post-partum haemorrhage, health dept to start using UBT

To combat postpartum hemorrhage, which is the largest direct cause of maternal mortality, the Health department is all set to make use of uterine balloon tamponade (UBT) among pregnant Women with severe bleeding during childbirth. The state is taking measures to bring the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) to 70 deaths per 1 lakh or below by 2030. The MMR in the state, which was 141 maternal deaths per 1 lakh live births in 2017-19, has reduced to 113 deaths per 1 lakh live births in 2018-20.
UBTs are a medical device for the treatment which are inserted inside the uterus and inflated by a healthcare staff to prevent the hemorrhaging for stabilizing the woman.

The health department is hopeful that with the use of UBT, they will be able to prevent maternal deaths by reducing the requirement for operation and also it will reduce the chances of blood transfusions.

In the state, there are 2,065 delivery points identified in the state, out of which 160 are centres with first referral Services.

Rajasthans expenditure under food mission falls over the years

Rajasthans expenditure under theNational Mission(NFSM), a centrally sponsored scheme launched in 2007-08, has gone down over the years. From Rs 156.94 crore in 2017-18, it has slumped to Rs 85.73 crore in 2021-2022, according to data shared by the central government.

NFSM was launched with the objective of increasing production of foodgrains through area expansion and productivity enhancement in the identified districts of the country.
As per the central government data, Rajasthan governments expenditure under the mission was Rs 95.39 crore in 2018-19, Rs 103.62 crore in 2019-20, and Rs 121.85 crore in 2020-21. But the allocations under the scheme were Rs 190.76 in 2017-18, Rs 188.82 crore in 2018-19, Rs 245.57 crore in 2019-20, Rs 230.96 crore in 2020-21 and Rs 199.6 crore in 2021-22.

Water in 20% wells of Rajasthan unsuitable for drinking

Groundwater table in every fifth well (20%) in the state has gone below the alarming level of 40 metres, making it largely unfit for drinking. The water below 40 metres contains sulphur, chlorine and fluoride more than the permissible limit, posing Health hazards when consumed constantly.

Ministry of Jal Shaktis latest groundwater report on Rajasthan 2019-2020 says that five districts had more than 40% of their wells recording water level below 40 metres in January 2020. The figure comes in stark contrast with the fact that annual rainfall in the state increased by 29.5% in 2019 from 2010-2018 (Average).

Jhunjhunu is leading, with 91% of the wells that had gone 40m and above in January 2020 (post monsoon) while in monsoon, the arid city received 32.81% more rain than the previous years. The report says that Jaipur alone had 41% of the wells with water table below 40 metres, despite receiving 744MM rain, which was 29.21% more than the average of the previous 8 years. Experts have said that wells are being overused and are thus not recharged even after sufficient rain.
