Raj exporting goods worth over 500cr to Kenya: REPC

The three-day Indo East Africa Trade Expo in Nairobi organised

During the inauguration,Rajiv Arora, chairman of REPC and Rajsico, said that Kenya imports goods worth about Rs 512 crore from Rajasthan alone, underlining the growing economic opportunities in the East African countries Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Madagascar, Mozambique and Mauritius. He said that that there are possibilities of exporting salt, sulphur, earth stone, plaster, lime and cement etc from Rajasthan to Kenya, which is the gateway to East Africa and the regional centre of Trade and Commerce.

Girl child survival rate rises in Rajasthan

The infant mortality rate (IMR) of girls in urban areas is reducing at a rapid pace, as per the recently released Sample Registration System (SRS) by the Centre. The report shows that in urban areas the IMR of girls has reduced by four points from 24 deaths per 1000 live births in 2019 to 20 deaths per 1000 live births in 2020.

The number is much less than the IMR of boys in urban areas of the state. In urban areas, the IMR of boys has reduced by three points from 26 deaths per 1000 live births in 2019 to 23 deaths per 1000 live births in 2020.

In rural areas, the decline of IMR in girls was not much in comparison to IMR of boys. The IMR in boys were reduced by six points from 39 to 33 deaths per 1000 live births, but the IMR of girls in rural areas were reduced by just one point from 38 to 37 deaths per 1000 live births in 2020 compared with 2019 SRS figures. Besides, in 2019, IMR of girls including rural and urban areas was below the IMR of boys, but in 2020, the IMR of boys reduced by five points but the IMR of girls was reduced by just two points. In 2020, 31 infant boys died per 1000 live births, while 33 infant girls died per 1000 live births.

Rajasthan has fulfilled the necessary conditions with full preparation due to which our steps can be taken towards the establishment of medical colleges in the government sector in 30 districts.

Gehlot also claimed that Rajasthan is emerging as a pioneer in the field of Health Services with the continuous efforts of the state government.
People from other states of the country are coming to Rajasthan to take advantage of our medical facilities, he claimed.

Raj Bill for coaching industry on the back burner

Even as suicides by students receiving coaching for competitive examinations in Kota continue to take place with alarming frequency, the has put on the back burner a Bill it had drafted to minimise student suicides and regulate the coaching institutes.
As many as five students have committed suicide in Kota last month, taking the figure so far this year to nine, and the total tally to 36 since the Congress government came to power in the state in December 2018. Examination-related Stress has been largely the reason behind the suicides.

The state government had promised in its election manifesto in 2018 a law to regulate coaching institutes and minimise student suicides, and the first draft of theRajasthanCoaching Institute (Regulation and Control) Bill, 2023, was released in January this year. But the draft faced objections from a section of lawmakers, especially to provisions in it like compulsory Aptitude tests, a limited number of students in classrooms, financial penalties, and no glorification of toppers in advertisements and media reports.

The draft Bill was prepared in 2021 by a high-powered team of academicians, who have been side-lined from the review process even as the Bill moves at snail’s pace through the corridors of power.

Single helpline, free ambulance for serious Covid cases in Rajasthan

In a bid to streamline the process of admitting Covid patients in hospitals, the government on Tuesday has provided a single helpline number for related queries and decided to provide freeambulanceservice for serious cases.

The medical and Health department has issued a single helpline number, 181, for enquiries related to Covid from citizens across the state and asked state- and district-level war rooms to arrange ambulances and hospital admissions for serious patients.

Patients will receive real-time information on availability of beds, Oxygen and ventilators in Covid-dedicated hospitals, consultation centre, treatment centres, private hospitals and ambulance facilities.

Availability of ambulances will be ensured at the district as well as block level for Covid patients. The ambulance facility will be completely free for patients. Apart from ambulances under 108 and 104, district collectors will also be able to hire private ambulances if required.

Govt to promote millets in mid-day meal, Indira Rasoi

Cereals like millets, jowar, ragi and kodo have been included in coarse grains. Scientists have given the status of ‘nutritious grains’ to coarse grains due to the high amount of nutrients and being rich in protein, vitamin-B and Minerals and these cereals should be included in the food for complete Nutrition.

Chhabra power plant faces water crisis

Rajasthans Chhabra Super Thermal Power Station (CSTPS), which meets one-fourth of the states power requirement, is grappling with water scarcity due to fall in reservoir levels, officials said.

The 2320-megawatt plant in Baran district produces 55.6 million units of power every day from its six generation units. The plant gets water supply from the Parvati river and Hinglot, Bainthali and Lahasi Dams.

The plant has four power generation units of 250 megawatt each and two units of 660 megawatt each.

Cabinet nod to changes in rural services

Thecabinetmeeting chaired by chief ministerAshok Gehloton Wednesday held virtually approved amendment in theRajasthan Rural Development State Service(RRDSS) Rules-2007 reducing direct recruitment to rural Services to 50%.

Currently, the provision is to fill 75 per cent posts of junior pay series of RRDSS through direct recruitments. This provision has been modified by the cabinet decision and the ratio of direct recruitment and promotion has been made on a 50:50 ratio.

The cabinet has approved amendments to theMiscellaneous Service Rulesto remove the provision of being placed on probation for a year on promotion of direct recruits to bring uniformity in all service rules.

Rajasthan scores high in school education

The Union ministry of Education on Sunday released the third edition of Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2019-20 in which Rajasthan got Grade1+ i.e., level 3. Compared to last year, the state has improved its performance significantly.

Rajasthan scored between 851-900 points in 2019-20 PGI, which is a significant improvement from the last two indices where state scored 751-800. The central government introduced the Performance Grading Index (PGI) with a set of 70 parameters to catalyse transformational change in the field of school education.

The PGI for states and Union Territories was first published in 2019 with reference year 2017-18. The PGI exercise envisages that the index would propel states and UTs towards undertaking multi-pronged interventions that will bring about the much-desired optimal school education outcomes.
