Ex-minister Ratan Chakraborty elected Tripura Assembly SpeakerVeteran politician and former minister Ratan Chakraborty on Friday was elected unopposed as the 14th Tripura Assembly Speaker after his predecessor Rebati Mohan Das abruptly quit the post earlier this month, citing “personal reasons”. Tripura Assembly Deputy Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, who was a strong contender for the post, announced Chakraborty’s name as the Speaker of the House on the opening day of the Monsoon Session.

Chakraborty, who joined the BJP in 2017 and was elected from the Khayerpur constituency in 2018 polls, is a former minister in the Congress-led government (1988-1993).

Arunachal cabinet approves credit-linked schemes to boost agriculture, horticulture

In a bid to boost the state’s economy through Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and , the Arunachal Pradesh cabinet has approved two credit-linked schemes, which will facilitate Rs 300 crore Investment in the agro-based sectors, a minister said. The State Government has earmarked Rs 60 crore of subsidy each for Atma Nirbhar Krishi Yojana for agriculture and Atma Nirbhar Bagwani Yojana for horticulture during the 2021-22 fiscal, he said. The credit-linked programmes will have three components – bank loans, subsidy and beneficiaries’ contribution, Home Minister Bamang Felix told reporters.

Under the programmes, a farmer can get up to Rs1.6 lakh with no collateral or bank guarantee, while self-help groups can avail of up to Rs 10 lakh, the government spokesperson said. The schemes will be available across the state, and people need to apply at the deputy commissioner office in their respective districts.

Manipur CM leads first-ever tree plantation drive in reserve forest area

Chief ministerN Biren Singhon Monday led other dignitaries in the first-ever tree plantation programme in the state being taken up in a reserve forest area in Kangpoki district.
The mass plantation programme, organized byManipur forest and department, was taken up atMangjo village,Kangpokpi Reserve Forest, in connection with the 72nd Van Mahotsav 2021.

Forest minister Awangbow Newmai raised concern on the alarming rate of deforestation in the state.

Newmai informed that about 400 square kilometers of forest had been cleared every year, and with this rate, the state would lose almost all its forest cover in near future.
Biren appealed to the public to co-operate in the development policies and projects taken up by the government and refrain from thinking that their lands independently belong to them, said a statement issued by theCM’s office.

Sittwe port to provide major fillip to trade in northeast IndiaIndias Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal and Myanmars Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport & Communications Admiral Tin Aung San jointly inaugurated the Sittwe Port in Rakhine State, Myanmar recently. It is the first Indian cargo ship that was flagged off from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata. This project was conceptualized to provide an alternative connectivity of Mizoram with Haldia / Kolkata / any Indian ports through Kaladan River in Myanmar. The project envisages highway / road transport from Mizoram to Paletwa (Myanmar), thereafter from Paletwa to Sittwe (Myanmar) by Inland Water Transport (IWT) and from Sittwe to any port in India by maritime shipping.There will be 50 per cent reduction in cost & time of transportation of goods between Kolkata and Agartala and Aizwal with the development of Sittwe Port. With this project northeast India is set to become gateway to Southeast Asia. Sittwe Port has been developed as a part of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMTTP) funded under grant in aid assistance from Government of India. Once fully operationalized the waterway and road components of KMTTP will link the East coast of India to the North-eastern states through the Sittwe port.


Tripura jackfruit makes way to UK

Prime Minister Narendra Modis appreciation of the jackfruit export initiative of the Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) from Tripura has made the farmers happy here while the termed it arecognition of pro-people Governance.

Echoing the sentiment, agriculture minister Pranajit Singharoy said with the help of APEDA a maiden consignment of the best summer fruit of Tripura, jackfruit, was exported to London after exporting pineapple and lemon to the Middle East and UK for the last three years.

Tripura is the biggest producer of jackfruit in the country and the best quality jackfruits are available only for a month between the middle of May to the middle of June. However, the Horticulture department of Tripura has been working on increasing the shelf life of jackfruit through natural processes. Tripura jackfruits have been making their way to Bangladesh markets for decades through riverine routes. They are sold for over Rs 100 there, but here the producers get nothing worthwhile. In the local market too, the best quality jackfruit is sold for Rs 50-80.

Tripura to become malaria-free by 2027, says Manik

CM ManikSaha announced thatTripurawould become malaria-free by 2027 while addressing theAsia Pacific Leaders Conclaveon Malaria Eradication 2023 in New Delhi.

Besides strengthening the rural Health and healthcare facilities, the Tripura government has undertaken a four-point action to control vector-borne diseases like malaria. It included the use of larvivorous fishes for mosquito control, vector-control sprays, insecticide-treated mosquito nets and massive awareness about malaria, Saha said.
He claimed that the Tripura government has adopted the latest drug policy for the treatment of malaria patients following international standards, which reduced the malaria infection rate to only three persons in every thousand Population.

Among eight districts, only two have been identified as prone to malaria and accordingly, specific interventions have been made and strategies employed to eradicate malaria and other vector-borne diseases, the CM said.

Saha highlighted that Tripura had witnessed a devastating malaria outbreak in 2014 when at least 96 people died and as many as 51,240 people were detected positive by screening only 6.8% of blood samples, which has improved within two years.


Arunachal: MoA to be signed with CPSU for hydropower developmentArunachal Pradesh Cabinet, in its 7th meeting of the year chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu gave its go ahead signal for proposed inking of Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) for the development of hydropower in the State, which will unlock the potential five hydroelectric projects (HEPs) with an installed capacity of 2820 MW.

The Cabinet approved the MoA to be signed with CPSU for development of hydropower in the State. This will pave the way to unlocking potential 5 HEPs with an installed capacity of 2820 MW. This will spur huge in the State and generate EMPLOYMENT.

Further, the Cabinet gave its nod to recall the order of new Chairman and Members of Appsc (Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission) and recommended the same to the Governor for recalling the appointment orders of 7th February 2023.


Northeast oil output to rise by 67% in 4 years: Hardeep Puri

Union petroleum minister Hardeep SinghPurisaid the petroleum sector will play a crucial role in the regions industrial Growth. He said oil production from the northeast is expected to increase by 67% from 4.11 MMT in 2020-21 to 6.85 MMT in the next four years.

Puri was speaking at the North-East Zonal Conference forPM GatiShakti(PMGS), organised by the ministry of petroleum and natural gas here on Monday. Puri added that the area under exploration in the region is going to double in the near future, with crude production expected to go up by 45% in four years and gas production by about 90% in the same period. He urged all the leaders to lend their support to this transformative mission by way of necessary project clearances and the cooperation of state agencies.

Puri said that PMGatiShaktiis a remarkable initiative, as it aims to drive down Logistics costs in India by streamlining and integrating Infrastructure projects of various central and state governments. PM Gati Shakti will ensure multimodal connectivity. For instance, fresh fruits grown in the northeast will swiftly cater to consumer markets and the Gulf, said Puri.

Before the start of the conference, the dignitaries attended a webinar on the vision of GatiShakti and its convergence with the Union Budget 2022, which was addressed by the Prime Minister. He emphasised on the need of PM GatiShakti by emphasising the scale at which the government is undertaking Infrastructure Development.
