Sushri Anusuiya Uikey sworn-in as 18th Governor of Manipur

Governor designate Sushri Anusuiya Uikey has sworn-in as the 18th Governor of Manipur (Regular) excluding seven additional charge governors in the state. She was administered the oath of office by Acting Chief of High Court of Manipur Justice MV Muralidaran held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal.

She said that she has been entrusted to serve the state and issues will be solved and developmental activities will be taken up in consultation with Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers.

District Level NER Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Index

MDoNER had launched the countrys first district level SDG Index for the eight North East Region States as a collaborative effort with , with technical support from UNDP. This is a first of its kind progress tracking tool for the North Eastern Region, of critical significance to the Regions development trajectory. The SDG NER index is aligned to the SDG India Index and is based on a north-east specific District Indicator Framework, comprising of 84 indicators to measure progress of NER across 15 SDGs. In furtherance to the first edition of the NER District SDG Index Report released on 26thAugust, 2021, Ministry of DoNER in collaboration with NITI Aayog and UNDP is in the progress to finalize the Second edition of District level NER SDG Index in 2022.

The adoption of the NER SDG District Index for goal-based planning, gap-based prioritization, and indices-based outcome targeting is needed for coordinated planning and monitoring in the entire region. This will ensure a targeted and optimal utilization of available Resources as per felt needs in the region. The institutionalization of this data-driven framework will empower all stakeholders in their decision-making and policymaking.

Ramsar designated wetlands of Northeast India are under imminent threatWetlands contribute to the environment in a number of ways including regulating water quantity, groundwater recharge, protecting the ecosystem against floods and drought, acts as erosion control and sediment transport. It also provides as an important habitat for migratory birds and other species. However, threats like draining of wetland, construction works, climate change and dumping zones are contributing to the degradation of these natural habitats.India is blessed with a total of 899 natural and man-made wetlands. Amongst these 49 sites have been recognized to be of “international importance” under the Ramsar Convention. In Northeast India, the three Ramsar sites are- Deepor Beel in Assam, Loktak Lake in Manipur and Rudrasagar in Tripura.

Natural and anthropogenic causes are some of the major threats that the lake is facing. This includes the proliferation of human settlements, expansion of roads and industries, threat from construction of broad-gauge RAILWAY line on the periphery of the beel that often possess a threat to thereby affecting the movement of the pachyderms. Another major threat is posed by the dumping ground in the nearby area close to the water body. The situation worsens during the monsoon as garbage gets carried away into the water body, affecting residents and migratory birds and fish.

UNC iterates stand against 7 new districts in Manipur

he UnitedNagaCouncil (UNC), a conglomerate of various Naga civil bodies of the state, on Wednesday reiterated the Naga peoples decision adopted in December 2016 against the creation of seven new districts in the state in the same year.

The districts five in the hills and two in the valley were created on December 8, 2016, by the erstwhileCongressgovernment which said those were set up for administrative convenience. The state has now 16 districts.

Earlier, the UNC had strongly contended that the Nagas ancestral areas were divided by carving out the new districts. It also outrightly rejected the 6th and 7th Amendment of theManipur(Hill Areas) District Council Bill, 2022.

Tripura government to make 50 km road in Agartala with plastic waste

With the decision of the central government to phase out single-use plastic items by this year,Tripurahas decided to build about 50 km of road stretch in the city using plastic waste in a phased manner.

Taking a cue from the success of 1km road stretch in the city made by plastic waste and the decision to phase out single-use plastic, our PWD department has proposed to make all the major roads with non-degradable waste, largely single-use plastic and the cabinet has given the go-ahead.

Tripura generates about 50 MT solid waste everyday and almost 60% of it is non-degradable, especially plastic, which is gone for sanitary land filling.

Govt to look into demand of additional police station: Manipur CM

Manipur government will look into the demand for constructing an additional Police station in Churachandpur district which international borders with Myanmar.

The state chief minister N Biren Singh shared the post in this regard in his Social Media platform after meeting representatives of the Kuki Inpi Churachandpur, an apex body of Kuki community in Churachandpur district.

Centre to send team to Mizoram to set up bamboo tissue culture lab: Ashwini Kumar Choubey

Choubeysaid he had a discussion on the bamboo potential inMizoramwith chief minister Zoramthanga.

He said Zoramthanga has given high importance to bamboo products to boost the economy of the state.

It was following a discussion with the chief minister that Choubey had agreed to send scientists from theministry of environmentand forests to see if it would be feasible to set up a tissue culture laboratory for bamboo.

Tripura seeks funds for multimodal logistics hub on Gomati bank

TheTripuragovernment has initiated a proposal with the central government seeking funds to set up a multimodal hub on the bank of river Gomati in Udaipur in the southern part of the state to boost trade with Southeast Asia via Bangladesh, said special secretary (transport), Sandeep R Rathod, here on Tuesday.
A multimodal logistics hub is essentially a freight-handling facility to improve the countrys freight logistics sector by lowering overall freight costs and time.
