NE govts rush to meet new rural housing deadline

State governments in the region are on their toes to meet the new deadline of March 2024 for providing houses for the rural poor under thePradhan Mantri AwaasYojana-Gramin(PMAY-G).

According to the written reply tabled in theLok Sabha by Union minister of state for rural development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, while about 85% of the 2.49 crore houses sanctioned by various states and Union territories under PMAY-G scheme have been completed nationally, 50% to 80% of the sanctioned houses remain incomplete in the northeast. The Union ministry of rural development is implementing PMAY-G with effect from April 1, 2016 to provide assistance to construct pucca houses in the country with basic amenities.

While the initial timeline for PMAY-G was 2022, the deadline has now been extended to March 2024. Under PMAY-G, the minimum size of a house is 25 square meter, including a dedicated area for hygienic cooking.

Except for Tripura, which has achieved noticeable progress by completing 79.77% of 2.49 lakh houses sanctioned under the scheme, about half of the task remains incomplete for Meghalaya and Manipur, which achieved 52.68% and 50.66% of the total target as on December 7. In Meghalaya and Manipur, 65,155 and 36,454 houses have been sanctioned.

The hill states of Nagaland andArunachal Pradeshare at the bottom of the tally in NE as they have completed the construction of only 23.42% and 27.28% of the 22,351 and 35,987 sanctioned houses respectively. Mizoram has completed the construction of 33.56% (6,167) of the 18,373 sanctioned houses.

Japanese organisation donates 100 oxygen concentrators to Manipur

Japan-basedNippon Foundationdonated 100 Oxygen concentrators to the Chief MinistersCovid-19 Relief Fund, through theManipur Tourism Forum(MTF), to support the state governments effort in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.

MTF founder president TH Dhabali Singh handed over the oxygen concentrators toCM N Biren Singhat the latters office complex in presence of Manipur principal secretary-(Health & family welfare) VVumlunmangand health Services director K Rajo, a statement from the CMs office said.

Biren expressed his sincere gratitude and thanked the Nippon Foundation for their support. He further stated that the gadgets will be helpful in dealing with the deadly pandemic, prevailing in the state. In his facebook post Biren said.

500 new jobs will be created in each constituency: Sikkim CM

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced that his government would create 500 new jobs in each of the 32 assembly constituencies of the state.

Addressing a function Sreebadam in West Sikkim, he said cancer patients in the state will be given medicines free of cost.

Tamang said the State Government has also sanctioned the construction of 11,000 houses at a cost of Rs 17.52 lakh each.

He also said that his government has decided to build 108 government schools, equipped with modern facilities.

The chief minister also announced the construction of five playgrounds in each assembly constituency to encourage children to take up Sports.

He further said that the honorarium for zilla panchayat and gram panchayats members will be increased soon.

The 59th Statehood Day Was Celebrated By Nagaland

Nagaland celebrated its 59th Statehood Day on 1 December.

Highlights:

Nagaland was given statehood on 1 December 1963, with Kohima being declared it’s capital.

Naga leaders and the central government recognised creating a separate region of the Naga Hills in 1957.

The State of Nagaland Act, 1962, was thus established by the Parliament to present Nagaland statehood.

According to the Article 371-A, no act of Parliament would appeal to the State of Nagaland in a subject relating to religious or social practices of Nagas, Naga customary law and procedure, administration of civil or criminal , including decisions according to Naga customary law and ownership and transfer of land and its Resources.

Nagaland was the first state in the northeast to be separated from Assam as the 16th State of the Indian Union.

Silchar to host Northeast Green Summit from Nov 16

The Centre has decided to demarcate boundaries of the Northeastern states through satellite imaging to settle inter-state border disputes that are often becoming a cause of concern and sometimes even leading to violence.

Two senior government functionaries said the task has been given to the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), a joint initiative of the Department of Space (DoS) and the North Eastern Council (NEC).

The NESAC helps augment the developmental process in the Northeast region by providing advanced Space Technology support.

Ladakh Sign MoU with Sikkim

The UT of Ladakh organic, the administration of Ladakh, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the State Organic Certification Agency (SOCCA). A tripartite MOU has been signed between SSOCA and Ladakh regarding Prampragat Krishi Vikas Yojana and Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) implementation in the Ladakh region to convert UT into organic by the year 2025. The main target of this MoU is to get the organic certification after a tie-up with the Government of India.

Highlights:

The target is to make Ladakh a certified organic UT by 2025, which will be completed in three phases.
First phase:85 villages have been identified to convert 5000 hectares of land into organic.
Second phase:82 villages will be covered with 10000 hectares.
Third phase:the department has selected 79 towns that will cover the remaining areas.
The first state to become 100 percent organic is Sikkim is, with all of its farmland certified organic. The use and sale of chemical Fertilizers & pesticides are banned in Sikkim.
