MoU inked for Manipur film archive

TheManipurState Film Development Society (MSFDS), a undertaking, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mumbais Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) for setting up afilm archiveofManipuricinema inImphal.

FHF being a non-profit organization, dedicated to supporting conservation, preservation, and restoration of film heritage in India, will provide technical and intellectual consultancy and support to MSFDS in starting the archive. Special attention will be paid to restoration, preservation and digitization of the cinematic heritage of Manipur.

30 of 36 disputed villages along Meghalaya-Assam border to remain in Meghalaya: CMThirty of the 36 disputed villages along the Meghalaya-Assam border have been recommended by regional committees of the two states to remain in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed the assembly.

Sangma said that discussions, visits and surveys were conducted by regional committees of the two states headed by cabinet ministers, and special technologies were used in the exercise. The areas will be more accurately determined by the Survey of India in the presence of representatives of both the states. The chief minister said that both the states have signed an MoU in January end on the resolution and conclusion of dialogue in six areas of difference and it was forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Manipur Craft Map

In 2018-19, an expert team conducted a field survey in Manipur to create the craft map.

Highlights:

It is the first of its kind, created with the goal of giving all creative genres equal and focused attention. Manipur’s handmade map was created more than a year ago.

It describes Manipur’s handloom and handicraft traditions in detail.

Konsam Ibomcha Singh, who earned the Padma Shri in 2022 for his doll-making craft, recently brought this map into the spotlight.

Apart from him, Lourembam Bino Devi was also honored for more than five decades of preserving ‘leeba’ applique textile craft from the state.

In collaboration with the National Institute of Design, Manipur’s Mission for Economic Empowerment of Traditional Artisans and Craftsmen (MEETAC) mapped many Art Forms.

Focus on digital infrastructure, road projects to boost development in Arunachal Pradesh: CM Pema Khandu

The Arunachal Pradesh government is focusing on strengthening digital and construction of roads during the current calendar year to improve connectivity and boost development in the northeastern state, chief ministerPema Khandusaid.
The authorities will emphasise on completion of two vital projects in 2022 Tali road in Kra Daadi district and Miao-Vijaynagar in Changlang, he said.

Arunachal Pradesh became a state in 1987.

Noting that road connectivity remains the most challenging issue in the northeastern state, the CM said his government would ensure the early completion of the two projects. Tali andVijaynagarare yet to be connected by roads.

Under the digital connectivity programme, various core infrastructure projects, includingNational Optical Fibre NetworkandState Wide Area Networkare in progress, the CM said.

Chandel inManipurhas topped the list of aspirational districts which have recorded the most improved performance in June, followed bySahibganjin Jharkhand and Firozpur inPunjab.Chandel, which is situated in the eastern most part of the country and shares more than 100 kms of open, porous international border with Myanmar, recorded a sharp improvement from its 30th position in the February rankings to the top rank. All the five districts which have recorded the most improved performance in June have made remarkable progress from their February rankings with Firozpur jumping to third position from 107 previously andDhubrimoving to the fourth position from 103.Kiphirein Nagaland bagged the fifth spot, improving upon its February ranking of 35.

Std I, II classes to go online in Tripura

In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases, theTripuragovernment decided to discontinue on-campus classes forstudentsof standards I and II indefinitely from Friday while the classes ofIIIand IV will be held on alternative days.

Education minister Ratan LalNathsaid, The department has reviewed the situation and received feedback from the stakeholders, based on which the decision was taken to suspend junior classes as of now. The others will be attendingschool.

Manipur fixes 4-child norm to avail govt jobs

Taking an effective step to enhance family planning, the state cabinet on Thursday fixed a four-child limit policy and also resolved that no government benefits, including jobs, would be provided to a family which will have more than four children.

Towards this end, the cabinet decided to set up theManipurState Population Commission as an Ordinance. The Ordinance would be promulgated after obtaining due approval of the Governor.

Earlier, the assembly had unanimously adopted as private member resolution to establish the population commission of the state.

The cabinet resolved to set up a high-powered committee to evict encroachers from the Loktak Lake, the sources said, adding that the committee will also oversee demarcation of the biggest fresh water lake in the NE region.

It also declaredIbudhou Thangjingat Thangjing Hill, Ibudhou Koubru andLaitinkon(popularly known as Lai Pukhri/Ikon) on Koubru hill as sacred sites under Manipur Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1976. The cabinet also approved recruitment of various posts in different departments, including 1512, in the Home department. Other posts, among others, include, 200 doctors and 300 nurses in the Health department and 1,000 primary teachers.

Centre exploring new technologies to overcome geographical barrier in NE, expand telecom network: Minister

Union minister Devusinh Chauhan on Saturday said the Centre is exploring new technologies to overcome challenges of geographical barrier in northeastern states to strengthen Telecommunication Services in the region.

Chauhan, the minister of state for communications, said the government is keen to bring all villages under the telecom Network.

There is no dearth of funds for strengthening the telecom sector. Coverage of the telecom network will be enhanced in the state and also in the northeast region.

As administration of first dose of anti-Covid jabs have outperformed that of second doses, theCentre asked eight north eastern states along withUttarakhandand Jammu and Kashmir to focus on ramping up coverage of the second dose, particularly in the population above 60 years of age.

In these states, the coverage of both doses of the vaccine is unsatisfactory in the elderly Population above 60 years of age that is most vulnerable to SARS-CoV2 infection as well as fatality due to it, the Health secretaryRajesh Bhushanunderlined during a meeting with these states to review the vaccination status.

The Centre advised states to earmark doses, days and target the completion of the vaccination exercise for people above 60 years of age as the vulnerability of these people to Covid-19 makes this exercise of prime importance.

Meanwhile, the states and union territories were also asked to quickly saturate the first dose coverage among the 18-plus population.

A total of 68.33 crore doses of Covid-Vaccines were administered till Saturday. Nearly 56% of the 94 crore adult population has received at least one dose of the vaccines, whereas around 17% of adults of age 18 years and above have got both doses.

The Centre asked states to closely monitor the stock from state-level stores to cold chain points, check rational distribution and restrict vaccine wastage to below 2%. States have been asked to update data on eVIN (electronic vaccine intelligence Network) on a daily basis.
Bhushan chaired a review meeting with representatives from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and the northeastern states — Arunachal Pradesh,Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.
