Assamchief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the has decided to increase theforest coverof Assam from 36% to 38% in the coming five years by way of large-scale plantations.

The seminar is being attended by judges of Supreme Court and chief Justice of several high courts. Sarma said the government has strengthened and increased Network“>Protected Area Network by upgrading reserve forests to national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.

Assam govt decides to establish law collegesAssam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that his government was committed to set up law colleges to provide quality education at an affordable cost. The Chief Minister said this while laying the foundation of Jorhat Government Law College, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office.The state government has decided to set up the colleges at Dibrugarh, North Lakhimpur, Rangia, Dhubri, Diphu, Silchar, Tezpur, Nalbari, and Nagaon, and all the institutions will have modern facilities, Sarma said. Earlier most of the law colleges in the state were established by private organisations, the chief minister said.

In the wake of the National Education Policy 2020, the has decided to implement the provisions of the policy across the state to bring about a paradigm shift in the delivery of quality education in the state, he said. As a part of NEP 2020, 3,000 high schools in the state will be upgraded to senior secondary schools by 2022, he added. The state government would also increase the number of universities in the state and it has set a goal to establish one college in each development block to spread higher education among all sections of the youth of the state. The Jorhat Government Law College will be set up with a budgetary outlay of Rs. 14.74 crore and is scheduled to be completed within 24 months.

SKOCH Award for Cachar District

Keerthi Jalli Deputy Commissioner of Cachar received the National Silver SKOCH Award a few days ago for Pushti Nirbhor (Nutrition-dependent). Pushti Nirbhor is a convergence project on transformation & development entailing setting up Nutri-gardens at houses in Dinnathpur Bagicha village. Dinnathpur Bagicha village is near the India-Bangladesh border in the Katigorah circle of the Cachar district.

Thirty thousand seedlings of fruits, vegetables and herbal Plants were distributed.

Each household of the village was given payment for 75 man-days for implementation of the project.

The objective was to train the villagers toward becoming self-reliant during the covid pandemic, grow enough for their own nutritional needs and to sell the surplus in the markets.

Severe erosion in Brahmaputra wreaking havoc in Biswanath; AAMSU demands solution

Residents of Biswanath, Chatia and Jamugurihat of Biswanath Chariali in Assam have expressed serious concern over the erosion of Brahmaputra following the first wave of floods in the State. The All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU) demanded a permanent solution to the annual deluge as the present situation is leading to a catastrophe in the district.

The AAMSU central president further stated that while the government has released crores of rupees to prevent erosion, the contractors and departmental authorities have not used the properly, this is threatening lives and properties of the people.

Assam Govt provincialises 419 tea garden managed schoolsThe Assam Government provincialized as many as 419 Tea Garden managed schools in the state, informed education minister Ranoj Pegu.

In a notification released on the orders of Governor of Assam, it said that 419 Lower Primary (L.P) schools, two Middle English (M.E) schools, one High School in tea garden areas will be provincialised.

The notification reads, The concerned District Elementary Education Officers and Inspector of Schools will ensure proper working relationship between the newly appointed teachers and existing tea garden engaged teachers. Further they will ensure harmonious Environment in the schools with better academic coordination. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that 219 new high schools will be established in tea garden areas.

Assam: 50% attendance in schools, univs in districts having over 100 cases

Assam re-clamped 50% attendance rule in classes from upper primary to university level, including technical colleges, in districts having more than 100 active Covid-19 cases and ordered online TEACHING for pre-primary to lower primary level classes, which have been already closed down.

This limited attendance arrangement in educational intuitions was introduced in June-July last year, which remained in force till the year-end. The new guidelines issued to contain the spread of the second wave of the pandemic will come into effect immediately and remain in force till May 8 or until further orders.

Assam cabinet panel to explore ways to rehabilitate child marriage victims

The Assam cabinet gave its go-ahead to the Police to continue the crackdown on child marriages, but decided to form a cabinet sub-committee for exploring ways to rehabilitate the victim girls.
The committee will submit a report, based on which the will take steps on rehabilitation of such victims.

The sub-committee comprises Health minister Keshab Mahanta, Education minister Ranoj Pegu and finance minister Ajanta Neog.

The cabinet has decided to release Rs 150 crore for the ongoing construction works of the seven cancer care hospitals, Mahanta added.
