Andhra Pradesh govt. plans to seek aid from WHO to check renal ailments in Uddanam

Health Minister Vidadala Rajini has said that the Andhra Pradesh government will explore the possibilities to seek the necessary aid from the World Health Organization (WHO) to check the chronic kidney ailments prevalent in the Uddanam region of Srikakulam district.

Ms. Rajini, accompanied byAndhra Pradesh Medical Services and Development Corporation (APMSIDC) Vice-Chairman and Managing Director D. Muralidhar Reddy, MP Margani Bharat and Rajanagaram MLA Jakkampudi Raja, inspected the construction of the new medical college on the government hospital campus in Rajamahendravaram.

Until now, the Harvard Medical School has concluded that water may be one of the factors for the renal ailments prevalent in Uddanam. The State Government will certainly explore if there is a possibility to get any aid from the WHO. Meanwhile, the construction of a kidney research centre and 700-crore drinking water pipeline projects are in the progress in Uddanam.

Cabinet sub-committee takes stock of Covid situation in Andhra Pradesh

The meeting of the cabinet sub-committee was held to review the Covid-19 situation in the state. The committee will meet chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday and brief him on the present situation. A final decision on the next course of action would be taken by the CM.

The committee asked private hospitals to follow the price list prescribed by the government for treatment of Covid patients and vaccination for others.

It warned the hospitals of severe action if they fail to adhere to the prices fixed by the government and other guidelines. The committee also made an appeal to people to follow all Covid guidelines and wear masks when going out, observe physical distancing, and avoid being in groups.

Andhra Pradesh: IIPE walks away with Rs 150 crore, mixed bag for other varsities

The 2022-23Unionbudget makes a wide spectrum of allocations for the premier educational institutes ofAndhra Pradesh. A sum of 150 crore has been earmarked for Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy,Visakhapatnam.

This is the highest ever annual allocation for the institute since its inception in 2016. Central University, Andhra Pradesh has been sanctioned 56.6 crore as budgetary support. Andhra Pradesh Central Tribal University, being operated from Vizianagaram, may get 22 crore as its share as 44 crore has been allocated for the tribal universities of Andhra Pradesh and .

The Indian Institute Of Management (IIM)-Visakhapatnam is already getting funds through the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) as the Union ministry of education entered into an agreement with the HEFA for release of funds to the IIM-V in 2018. Thus, no separate allocation has been made for this premier business school.

As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, the Union Government sanctioned about several national institutions to Andhra Pradesh, including IIM-Visakhapatnam, IIPE and Tribal University to north-coastal Andhra Pradesh. Permanent campuses of these institutions are in various phases of execution. IIM-Vizag is expected to move into its permanent campus in Gambheeram this year, while the IIPE has recently got land for construction of a permanent campus. A place for the permanent campus of tribal university is yet to be finalised in Vizianagaram district.

Despite Andhra Pradeshs concerns, power generation on at Pulichintala project

Pulichintala project was chiefly built to regulate theKrishnadelta ayucut spread over 14 lakh acres in Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts. The project has only around 23tmc wateragainst its full capacity of storage 45 tmc. According to AP officials, the government is utilizing nearly 6,500 cusecs for power generation which would dip existing water reserves. The outflows from the power generation centre has resulted in heavy inflows at Prakasam barrage prompting the AP Irrigation authorities to lift the gates of Prakasam barrage and let out water to downstream.

TTD, NTPC to sign MoU for solar projects at Tirumala

The TirumalaTirupatiDevasthanams (TTD) will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) to commission solar PV power projects at Tirumala and Tirupati and purchase generated from these projects.

The TTD trust board under the chairmanship of Y V Subba Reddy recently gave its nod to the administrative top brass to go ahead with the proposals. Following a series of meetings and inspections, NVVN representatives agreed to TTD’s proposals of commissioning solar power Plants at multiple locations in the hill town.

While the capital cost for the project will be borne by NVVN, the TTD will provide land for 25 years.

Power generated will be purchased by the TTD for 25 years at a price determined by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).

Education reforms in AP to help improve skills of students: Botsa

Education Minister Botsa Satyanarayana has said the aims to upgrade the skills of students to make them globally competitive. This would be done by introducing a series of reforms like the introduction of English as a medium of instruction and CBSE syllabus in government schools.

The minister appreciated the role of officials in developing a new curriculum linking higher education with Skill development. This was not being practised anywhere in the country. Some 1.40 lakh students are undergoing training with Microsoft.

AP government goes back on legislative council dissolution

TheAP government backtracked on its earlier decision to dissolve the statelegislative council.
It has now passed a new resolution in the stateassemblystating that it has withdrawn the earlier resolution on abolition of the council.

The decision comes a day after the withdrew its legislation on three capital cities.Andhra Pradeshis one of the few states in India with a bicameral legislature.
Last year, the state government has sought abolition of the legislative council or the upper House of the state assembly, soon after the three capitals Bill was referred to a select committee by the council chairman.

The Assembly adopted the resolution, withdrawing its resolution of January 27, 2020 seeking abolition of the Legislative Council.

‘Maoists supporting ganja cultivation and trade in Andhra Pradesh’

DGP D Gautam Sawang said Maoists are supportingganjacultivation in tribal pockets of Vizag agency and along the Andhra-Odisha border (AOB) areas as the weed has now become the main revenue source for the banned outfit.

Ganja cultivation is quite prevalent in the hilly areas of AOB. As Maoists are supporting the trade, enforcement agencies are struggling to put an end to cannabis cultivation and its smuggling. Coordination with Police and enforcement officials of other states is crucial and can help in controlling the ganja menace.

Food Safety Mission lauds Andhra Pradeshs efforts to make technology available for farmers

Stating that the launch of Rythu Bharosa Kendras and advanced agri-testing laboratories in villages is a revolutionary change, a delegation ofNational Food Safety Mission(NFSM) said thatAndhra Pradeshhas become a model state in the country in providing Services to farmers.

The farm scientists have also projected a fall in rice yields based on increase in temperature by varying degrees. They warned that the rice yield is expected to decrease in 30 to 60% of the states studied as part of the research. The result of the research was published in the recent issue of the science publication, Journal of Water and Climate-change”>Climate Change.

The scientists further said there will be an increase in yield gap of 20.9% and 22.2% by 2030 and 2040s respectively. A stagnated yield gap in 29.7% and 26.5% and decreasing yield gap in 49.4% and 51.3% of the study area during 2030 and 2040s respectively. The researchers said their finding contributes to understanding the consequences of climate change on rice yield gap and future Food Security concerns in India.

Andhra Pradesh: Central Discom to distribute transformers to farmers

As part of its efforts to strengthen the nine-hour power supply to the farm sector free of cost, the Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APCPDCL) will distribute transformers to the farmers needing them, in Vijayawada, Guntur and Ongole on June 28 (Tuesday).

The government has released 50,280 new agricultural connections in the purview of the CPDCL and it has been decided to provide transformers to farmers under the High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS) scheme.
