Andhra Pradesh is ranked ninth in theLeads2021 (LogisticsEase Across Different States) index of the Union ministry of commerce and . This is a drop of six positions from the third rank in Leads 2019. Minister of commerce and industry, consumer affairs, food and public distribution and textiles, Piyush Goyal, released the report in New Delhi.

As per the report, Andhra Pradesh registered its biggest fall in ranking on account of issues across Infrastructure, Services and the regulatory Environment. The state has scored low in indicators of quality of infrastructure.

The shortage of Warehousing facilities, specifically in Vijayawada, Kakinada and in parts of Nellore and the general lack of regulation for setting up a warehousing facility in the state are some other negative factors highlighted in industry interactions. A similar sentiment is also reflected in the below Average scores of the state in the extent of facilitation and ease of obtaining approvals.

As per the report, stakeholders have pointed out that high toll costs and additional levy on diesel are two Elements that have resulted in high cost of Logistics in the state. The stakeholder perception score has hence been low on related indicators of reasonableness of road freight rates and prices of terminal services.

Vijayawada 2nd in drunken driving deaths

ijayawada stands second among cities in the country in terms of deaths that occur due to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
A total of 7,039 people were killed and 19,675 persons suffered injuries in 17,924road accidentsinAndhra Pradeshin 2020 as per the latest data ofNCRBin its Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India-2020 report.

Of the 94 deaths reported in AP due to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in 2020, Vijayawada accounted for 67.

As per the cause-wise distribution of road accidents among cities in 2020, among the 53 cities, Vijayawada occupies the second position with 67 deaths, after Chennai (236 deaths). Though Kolkata reported 345 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, it reported only two deaths and 338 injuries.

Nearly 30% coastal area in Andhra Pradesh subject to erosion: Report

The National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR) in its report has pressed the alarm bells warning that the coastline alongAndhra Pradeshis facing a massive coastal erosion. Andhra Pradesh has a coastline of 974 km and of this, about 290 km is under varying degrees of erosion, according to the shoreline change assessment mapping done by the NCCR.

As per the research study, about 480 km of the coast in the state is subject to accretion (deposition of sand), while the remaining coastline is, however, in a stable state. The assessment was carried out by using satellite data spanning 28 years.

Nellore district shows a high accretion trend with a few pockets of erosion and stable condition. Accretion is observed to be dominating the coast in Prakasam, Guntur and West Godavari. The delta regions of Krishna and East Godavari are witnessing an alternating band of accretion and erosion. No significant change is observed in the north coastal Andhra Pradesh belt, from Ichchapuram to Bheemunipatnam.
