Indian Navy gets 5th Scorpene-class submarine Vagir

The INDIAN NAVY received the fifth scorpene-class submarine Vagir ahead of its planned commissioning next month, officials said.

The induction of the submarine, built under Project-75, is set to bolster the Indian Navy’s combat capability at a time when China has been increasing its presence in the Indian Ocean region.

India has been focusing on shoring up its maritime capability with a focus on the Indian Ocean in the backdrop of concerns over China’s growing forays into the region, considered the backyard of the Indian Navy.

Project-75 includes the indigenous construction of six submarines of Scorpene design. The submarines are being constructed at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai in collaboration with the Naval Group of France.

It will also identify the variances and gapsin both the conceptual and practical understandingof a just transition and facilitate knowledge sharing and partnerships among stakeholders and scholars.

SMART Launched By India

India successfully launched Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo System (SMART) On 13 December from Abdul Kalam Island, off the Odisha coast

It was established from a ground mobile launcher and can cover a range of distances.

The DEFENCE Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has designed the weapon for the INDIAN NAVY.

Incidents of Naxal violence reduced by 55% over 8 years: MHA report

TheUnion Home Ministryhas said resolute implementation of the national policy and action plan led to a 55 per cent reduction in violent incidents perpetrated by theNaxalsand 63 per cent indeathsover a period of eight years.

According to the annual report 2021-22 of theMinistry of Home Affairs, there has been an overall 55 per cent reduction in violent incidents (from 1,136 to 509) and 63 per cent reduction (397 to 147) inLeft Wing Extremism(LWE) related deaths in 2021 as compared to 2013.

In comparison to 2020, the year 2021 saw a decline of 24 per cent (665 to 509) in incidents of violence and 20 per cent (183 to 147) in the resultant deaths, the report said.

Owing to the improved LWE scenario, the list of LWE affected districts has been revised twice in the last three years. The number of LWE affected districts was reduced to 90 in April 2018 and then to 70 in July 2021.

In 2021, Chhattisgarh (255 incidents and 101 deaths) remains the worst affected state followed by Jharkhand (130 incidents and 26 deaths), Odisha (32 incidents and three deaths), Maharashtra (31 incidents and six deaths) and Bihar (26 incidents and seven deaths).
