Geo Imaging Satellite to be Launched in August – ISRO

The ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) is back into its launch activity fully at Sriharikota with the planned orbiting of geo imaging satellite GISAT-1 onboard GSLV-F10 rocket on August 12. GISAT-1 to be placed in a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit by GSLV-F10 and, it will be placed in the final geostationary orbit that is about 36,000 km above earths equator) using its onboard propulsion system.

About the satellite:

The 2,268-kg GISAT-1 was initially slated to be launched from Sriharikota in Nellore district (100kms north of Chennai) of Andhra Pradesh on March 5 last year, postponed a day before the blast-off due to technical reasons.

According to ISRO, GISAT-1 will facilitate near real-time observation of the Indian sub-continent, under cloud-free conditions, at frequent intervals. The earth observation satellite provides the country with real-time images of its borders and enable quick monitoring of natural disasters.

12 states have transgender welfare board, but not Delhi

Twelve Indian states, includingBiharand Uttar Pradesh, have formed the Transgender Welfare Board but the capital still lacks one. The homes were set up under the SMILE (Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise) scheme in accordance with The Transgender Rights Act. As per the guidelines, each Garima Greh is to be granted Rs 36.5 lakh each year.

India’s internet economy set to hit $1 trillion in 7 years

Indias Internet economy is expected to grow sixfold to $1 trillion by 2030 from $175 billion in 2022, a report fromGoogle, Temasek and Bain & Company showed.

The report said confluence of three crucial forces — digital-seeking behaviours among internet users in tier-2 locations; the digitization of large, traditional businesses along with a growing startup ecosystem; and the success of Indias homegrown digital public goods or the India Stack — has positioned the internet economy for acceleration.

The contribution of the internet economy to Indias technology sector is set to expand, from the present 48% to 62% in 2030, while its share in Indias GDP will increase from 4-5% to nearly 12-13%.

With Indias 700 million internet users transacting more via real-time digital payments and spending more time on online video-streaming Services and Social Media than global Averages, the internet economy is set to expand beyond its current base.

This Growth will be founded on consumers seeing their household incomes double by 2030 from approximately $2,500 to $5,500 by 2030. Tier-2 consumers indicated a greater openness to experimentation with new brands and products, and to directing their increased spending towards personalization and premiumization, especially for healthtech and edtech, the report said.

Indias GDP growth set to surpass 7.2%, says CEA

Digital technology will be a major contributor to the countrys GDP Growth this decade, saidVAnantha Nageswaran, chief economic adviser, Government of India. He was speaking at the interaction organised by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) in the city.

He said that capital Investment and digital technology will help achieve positive growth as online usage in India is well ahead of the largest digital economy with respect to digital payment. My expectation is that capital investments by businesses, which was absent last decade, will add about 0.3% to 0.5% to growth of GDP and digital economy another 0.3% to 0.5%, he said.

Indias Real GDP growth for the year ending March 2023 was 7.2%, surpassing expectations. The final number will be higher than 7.2% as the underlying momentum in the economy is quite strong, he added.

Indiahas emerged as the global leader in digital payments for the year 2022, surpassing other nations in terms of both value and volume of transactions. The data from the governments citizen engagement platform, MyGovIndia, reveals Indias dominant position in thedigital paymentlandscape, showcasing the countrys robust payment ecosystem and widespread adoption of digital modes.

According to the data, India recorded a staggering 89.5 million digital transactions during the review period. This accounted for a remarkable 46 percent share of the worlds real-time payments in 2022, surpassing the combined digital payments of the next four top countries.

The Growth of digital payments in India has witnessed significant milestones in terms of both value and volume. Experts from the Reserve Bank Of India (RBI) highlighted the countrys strong payment ecosystem and the acceptance of digital modes by Indian citizens as key factors contributing to Indias digital payments success.

Brazil secured the second position in digital payments with 29.2 million transactions, followed by China at third place with 17.6 million transactions. Thailand and South Korea secured the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, with 16.5 million and 8 million transactions.

11 states/ UTs have laws on lifts, Centre urges others to follow suit

Flagging that only 11 states and UTs have Acts and Rules in place for lifts which mandate compliance of standards, the consumer affairs ministry has urged all the state and UT governments to frame laws and notify the rules specifying a robust audit mechanism.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (Bis) has published several Indian standards on lifts covering various aspects for ensuring safe travel in lifts. The letter said, However, it has been noted that only 11 states have Lift Acts/ Rules in place which mandate (or are in the process of mandating) compliance to Indian Standards on lifts.

The states which have the compliance mechanism in place are Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Nadu, Haryana, West Bengal, Kerala, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Assam.

Efforts to Enhance Production under Mission Coking Coal

Government has launched ‘Mission Coking Coal’ in August, 2021 to suggest roadmap to augment the production and utilization of domestic coking coal in India by 2030. Mission Coking Coal document has made recommendations majorly relating to new exploration, enhancing production, enhancing washing capacity, auction of new coking coal mines.

CIL undertakes constant efforts to enhance coking coal production by capacity enhancement through expansion of existing coking coal producing mines and from implementation of new coking coal blocks. Mass Production Technology has been introduced in UG mines of CIL to enhance the domestic raw coking coal production. CIL is taking steps regarding offering of coking coal mines for production to investors on revenue sharing basis.

Indias Cuisine Ranked Fifth in the list of best Cuisines of the World

India is ranked fifth on the global list of the best cuisines for 2022, according to Taste Atlas. The ranking is based on audience votes for ingredients, dishes, and beverages. Italys food came in first place followed by Greece and Spain. India received 4.54 points and the best rated foods of the country include garam masala, malai, ghee, butter garlic naan, keema, the rating said. Ithas a total of 460 items in the list. Furthermore, the best restaurants to try Indian cuisine are Shree Thaker Bhojanalay (Mumbai), Karavalli (Bengaluru), Bukhara (New Delhi), Dum Pukht (New Delhi), Comorin (Gurugram) and 450 others, according to the list.
