Kashmir<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gulab Singh purchased the princely state of Kashmir from the East India Company in 1846 for 75 lakhs. The Treaty of Amritsar was signed on 16 March 1846, after the First Anglo-Sikh War. The treaty gave the East India Company control of the Punjab, while Gulab Singh was given control of Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p>Jammu and Poonch were already under Gulab Singh&#8217;s control, and he now added Kashmir to his kingdom.
