He was educated at the Government College, Lahore, and the University of Allahabad. He joined the Indian National Congress in 1927 and participated in the Indian independence movement. He was imprisoned several times by the British government for his political activities.<\/p>\n<p>After India&#8217;s independence in 1947, Dr Parmar became a member of the Constituent Assembly of India. He was also a member of the first Lok Sabha (lower house of the Indian Parliament) from 1952 to 1957.<\/p>\n<p>In 1952, Dr Parmar was elected as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. He served as the Chief Minister for 25 years, until his death in 1977. During his tenure as Chief Minister, Dr Parmar played a key role in the development of Himachal Pradesh. He oversaw the construction of roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure. He also promoted agriculture and tourism in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Parmar was a popular and respected leader. He was known for his simplicity and his commitment to the welfare of the people of Himachal Pradesh.
