He is considered one of the most important figures in the development of modern Maithili literature. He is best known for his poetry, which is characterized by its use of simple language and its focus on social and political issues. He received his early education in his village and then went on to study at the Darbhanga Sanskrit College. After graduating from college, he worked as a teacher for several years before becoming a full-time writer.<\/p>\n<p>Kushwaha&#8217;s first collection of poems, &#8220;Akash Mein Akash&#8221; (Sky in the Sky), was published in 1952. His other works include the novels &#8220;Dharti&#8221; (Earth), &#8220;Ganga&#8221; (Ganges), and &#8220;Surya&#8221; (Sun); the short story collections &#8220;Akash Mein Akash&#8221; (Sky in the Sky) and &#8220;Dharti&#8221; (Earth); and the essays &#8220;Maithili Sahitya ka Itihas&#8221; (History of Maithili Literature) and &#8220;Maithili Bhasha ka Vikas&#8221; (Development of the Maithili Language).<\/p>\n<p>Kushwaha was a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, the highest literary award in India.
