He was elected to the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1952 and became the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh in 1953. He served as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh for 17 years, from 1953 to 1970 and from 1977 to 1983. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1970 to 1977. He died on 13 November 1984.<\/p>\n<p>A. Shanta Kumar was the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from 1977 to 1980 and from 1990 to 1992. He was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.<\/p>\n<p>C. Virbhadra Singh was the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from 1983 to 1990, from 1993 to 1998, from 2003 to 2007, and from 2012 to 2017. He was a member of the Indian National Congress.<\/p>\n<p>D. Charanjit Singh was the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh for a brief period in 1975.
