It is a 9th-century Hindu temple dedicated to the Sun god Surya. The temple is one of the most important examples of Kashmiri architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n<p>The temple is built on a hilltop overlooking the Martand River. It is a large, rectangular structure with a central courtyard. The courtyard is surrounded by a colonnade of 84 pillars. The temple is crowned by a large dome.<\/p>\n<p>The temple is decorated with intricate carvings and sculptures. The most famous of these is the sculpture of Surya, which is located in the central courtyard.
