He was educated at the Government High School, Dharampur, and the Government College, Dharamshala. He started his career as a teacher in 1939. He joined the Indian National Congress in 1942 and participated in the Quit India Movement. He was imprisoned for his participation in the movement.<\/p>\n<p>After independence, Shri Karam Singh was elected to the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1952. He served as Minister for Education and Health in the first Himachal Pradesh government. He was also the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from 1963 to 1967.<\/p>\n<p>Shri Karam Singh was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress and a freedom fighter. He was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India and the Rajya Sabha. He was also the Governor of Gujarat from 1977 to 1980.<\/p>\n<p>Shri Karam Singh died on 20 January 1997 at the age of 78. He was a great leader and a true patriot.
