The Act provides for reservation of one-third of the total number of seats for women in Panchayats at all levels, i.e., Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad. The Act also provides for reservation of seats for women belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.<\/p>\n<p>In Jharkhand, 33% of the total number of seats in Panchayats are reserved for women. Of these, 16% are reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Castes and 7% are reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Tribes.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the statement &#8220;There is no reservation for women in Panchayats of Jharkhand&#8221; is incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>The statement &#8220;There is no reservation for SC but there is reservation for ST in only one district&#8221; is also incorrect. As mentioned above, 16% of the total number of seats in Panchayats in Jharkhand are reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Castes.
