Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was an Indian politician who served as the 10th Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 2002 to 2008 and again from 2014 to 2016. He was the founder and president of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP).<\/p>\n

Sayeed was born in 1936 in Bijbehara, Jammu and Kashmir. He studied at the Aligarh Muslim University and the University of Kashmir. He joined the Indian National Congress in 1962 and served as a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from 1972 to 1987.<\/p>\n

In 1987, Sayeed left the Congress and founded the PDP. The PDP won the 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election and Sayeed became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He was re-elected as Chief Minister in 2014.<\/p>\n

Sayeed died in 2016 at the age of 81.<\/p>\n
