Gulab Singh.<\/p>\n<p>Gulab Singh was a Dogra Rajput prince who served as the first Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir from 1846 until his death in 1857. He was a prominent figure in the history of the Indian subcontinent, and is considered to be one of the most successful rulers of the 19th century.<\/p>\n<p>Gulab Singh was born in 1792 in the village of Sialkot in the Punjab region of British India. He was the son of Raja Suchet Singh, the ruler of Jammu. Gulab Singh became the first Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir in 1846.<\/p>\n<p>Gulab Singh ruled Jammu and Kashmir for 11 years until his death in 1857. During his reign, he oversaw a period of great economic and social development in the state.
