The accord led to the deportation of over 2 million illegal immigrants from Assam.<\/p>\n<p>The accord was signed by the then Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, and the AASU leader, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. The accord had 15 points, which included the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Detection and deportation of illegal immigrants from Assam.<\/li>\n<li>Identification of foreigners who had entered Assam after 25 March 1971.<\/li>\n<li>Grant of citizenship to those who had entered Assam before 25 March 1971 and had been staying there continuously.<\/li>\n<li>Special provisions for the development of Assam.<\/li>\n<li>Establishment of a tribunal to settle the claims of those who had been declared foreigners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Assam Accord was a landmark agreement that brought an end to the Assam Agitation. It has been credited with restoring peace and stability in Assam.
