This is because the RTI Act gives citizens the right to access information held by public authorities, which is essential for them to be able to participate in public life and hold the government accountable.<\/p>\n<p>The Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression is guaranteed under Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution. It states that &#8220;all citizens shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression&#8221;. This right includes the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and in any form.<\/p>\n<p>The RTI Act was enacted in 2005 to give effect to this right. The Act provides for a mechanism for citizens to access information held by public authorities. This includes information about the functioning of the government, its policies and programs, and the use of public resources.<\/p>\n<p>The RTI Act has been hailed as a landmark legislation that has helped to promote transparency and accountability in the government.
