The District Courts are the principal civil and criminal courts in the state of Gujarat. There are 26 District Courts in Gujarat, each with jurisdiction over a district. The District Courts have original jurisdiction in civil cases involving a value of up to \u00e2\u0082\u00b950 lakhs, and in criminal cases involving a maximum sentence of seven years imprisonment. The Subordinate Courts are the lower civil and criminal courts in the state of Gujarat. There are over 1,000 Subordinate Courts in Gujarat, each with jurisdiction over a taluka or a group of talukas.
