Kurnool was the capital of Andhra State from 1956 to 1959, when it was moved to Hyderabad. Vijayawada became the capital of Andhra Pradesh in 1983. Visakhapatnam is the second largest city in Andhra Pradesh and is a major port city.<\/p>\n<p>Kurnool is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the headquarters of Kurnool district and the third-largest city in the state after Hyderabad and Vijayawada. Kurnool is located on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, at an elevation of 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level. The city has a population of over 300,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>Kurnool was founded in the 12th century by the Chola dynasty. It was later ruled by the Vijayanagara Empire, the Qutb Shahi dynasty, and the Nizam of Hyderabad. In 1956, Kurnool became the capital of the newly formed Andhra State. The city was the capital of Andhra State until 1959, when the capital was moved to Hyderabad.<\/p>\n<p>Kurnool is a major commercial and educational center.
