The NCST has the following functions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To investigate all matters relating to the safeguards provided for the Scheduled Tribes under the Constitution or under any other law for the time being in force and to report to the President upon the working of those safeguards;<\/li>\n<li>To advise the Central Government on all such matters and to make recommendations to it for the effective implementation of those safeguards;<\/li>\n<li>To take up with the Central Government any matter which in the opinion of the Commission is affecting the welfare of the Scheduled Tribes;<\/li>\n<li>To look into complaints received from any individual or group of individuals or associations relating to the deprivation of rights and safeguards of the Scheduled Tribes;<\/li>\n<li>To undertake studies and research on the conditions of the Scheduled Tribes and to make recommendations for their amelioration;<\/li>\n<li>To publish periodically reports on the work done by it and to make such other reports as it may deem necessary;<\/li>\n<li>To perform such other functions as the President may, by order, direct.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The NCST has been playing a vital role in safeguarding the rights of Scheduled Tribes in India.
