She was born in 1915 in the village of Rani Gaidinliu in the Naga Hills. She was the daughter of Gaidinliu, a Naga chief who was also a leader of the resistance movement. Rani Gaidinliu became involved in the resistance movement at a young age. She was a skilled fighter and a charismatic leader. She led the resistance movement for many years, and she was eventually captured by the British in 1932. She was imprisoned for 14 years, but she was released in 1946. After her release, she continued to work for the Naga people, and she was a key figure in the negotiations that led to the creation of the Nagaland state in 1963. Rani Gaidinliu died in 1993.
