However, Travancore was the only kingdom that was directly ruled by the British East India Company. This made it the target of Velu Thampi Dalawa&#8217;s revolt.<\/p>\n<p>The revolt was unsuccessful due to a number of factors. First, the British were much more powerful than Travancore. Second, the British were able to divide the Travancore army and government. Third, the British were able to win the support of some of the Travancore nobles.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its failure, Velu Thampi Dalawa&#8217;s revolt is an important event in the history of Kerala. It was the first major revolt against British rule in Kerala.
