It was founded in 1628 by Rao Khengarji I, a descendant of the Jadeja Rajputs. The state had a population of 230,000 people in 1901 and a revenue of Rs. 1.5 million. It was ruled by a hereditary chief who bore the title of &#8220;Maharaja&#8221;. The Limbdi princely state was a member of the Kathiawar Agency of the British Raj. It acceded to India on 15 August 1947.<\/p>\n<p>Surendranagar is a district in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The district is named after its headquarters, Surendranagar city. Surendranagar district is bordered by Rajkot district to the north, Amreli district to the east, Bhavnagar district to the south, and Jamnagar district to the west. The district has a population of 2,714,803 (2011 census). The majority of the population is Hindu, followed by Muslims and Jains. The official language of the district is Gujarati.<\/p>\n<p>The district is home to a number of historical and cultural sites, including the Limbdi Fort, the Surendranagar Palace, and the Virpur Jain Temple.
