2010.<\/p>\n<p>The Act guarantees free and compulsory education to all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years, irrespective of their gender, caste, religion, disability, language, or place of residence. The Act also provides for the establishment of elementary schools within one kilometer of every habitation, and for the appointment of qualified teachers.<\/p>\n<p>The Act has been implemented in all states and union territories of India.
