She is the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the IAAF World U20 Championships. She is also the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Asian Games in track and field.<\/p>\n<p>Hima Das was born on 9 January 2000 in Dhing, a village in Nagaon district of Assam. She started running at the age of 10 and soon became one of the fastest runners in her village. She finished fifth in the 400 metres final. In 2018, she won the gold medal in the 400 metres at the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. She became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in track and field at the Asian Games.<\/p>\n<p>Hima Das is a national hero in India.
