In the 2020-21 index, Tamil Nadu ranked 10th among all states and union territories in India. The state scored 69.6 out of 100, which is higher than the national average of 67.6. Tamil Nadu performed particularly well in the areas of poverty alleviation, education, and health. The state also made significant progress in the areas of gender equality, water and sanitation, and energy. However, there are still some areas where Tamil Nadu needs to improve, such as in the areas of climate action and sustainable cities and communities.
