However, taxpayers can avail of an extension of up to 15 days by paying a late fee. The late fee is 100 rupees per day, up to a maximum of 5000 rupees.<\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers who fail to file the monthly return by the due date will be liable for a penalty of 500 rupees. The penalty will be increased to 1000 rupees if the return is filed after the extended due date.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the penalty, taxpayers who fail to file the monthly return will also be liable for interest on the tax due.
