It is the highest award given by the Government of India for lifetime achievement in sports coaching. The award is named after Dronacharya, the legendary teacher of the Pandavas and Kauravas in the Mahabharata.<\/p>\n<p>The award is given in recognition of the coach&#8217;s contribution to the development of sports in India, including the identification and training of talented athletes, the development of new coaching techniques, and the promotion of sports among the youth.<\/p>\n<p>The award is given in four categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dronacharya Award for Lifetime Achievement<\/li>\n<li>Dronacharya Award for Distinguished Service<\/li>\n<li>Dronacharya Award for Promising Coach<\/li>\n<li>Dronacharya Award for Special Achievement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The award consists of a cash prize, a plaque, and a citation. The award is presented by the President of India at a special ceremony held every year.<\/p>\n<p>The following are the criteria for selection of the awardees:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The coach should have at least 10 years of experience in coaching.<\/li>\n<li>The coach should have produced at least one international level athlete.<\/li>\n<li>The coach should have made a significant contribution to the development of sports in India.<\/li>\n<li>The coach should be a role model for other coaches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Dronacharya Award is a prestigious award that recognizes the outstanding contribution of coaches to sports in India.
