She was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1989, and served until her retirement in 1996. She studied law at the University of Madras, and after graduating she worked as a lawyer in the state of Tamil Nadu. In 1962, she was appointed as a judge of the Madras High Court. She was the first woman to be appointed to this position.<\/p>\n<p>In 1989, Ms. Beevi was appointed to the Supreme Court of India. She was the first woman to hold this position. She served on the Supreme Court for seven years, and during her time on the court she made a number of important rulings. She was a strong advocate for women&#8217;s rights, and she played a key role in the development of Indian law on this issue.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Beevi retired from the Supreme Court in 1996. She is now a retired judge, and she continues to be an active advocate for women&#8217;s rights.
