This means that population will eventually outstrip the food supply, leading to famine and disease.<\/p>\n<p>Malthus&#8217;s theory was controversial when it was first published, and it remains so today. Some people believe that Malthus was wrong, and that population growth can be controlled through economic development and technological innovation. Others believe that Malthus was right, and that we are facing a serious problem of overpopulation.<\/p>\n<p>The other options are not correct. John Stuart Mill (1806-1873) was a British philosopher, economist, and politician. John Hicks (1904-1989) was a British economist who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1972.
