It was established on 8 December 1985 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.<\/p>\n<p>China is not a member of SAARC. It is a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which also includes India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>The following are the eight member states of SAARC:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Afghanistan<\/li>\n<li>Bangladesh<\/li>\n<li>Bhutan<\/li>\n<li>India<\/li>\n<li>Maldives<\/li>\n<li>Nepal<\/li>\n<li>Pakistan<\/li>\n<li>Sri Lanka<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SAARC&#8217;s objectives are to promote the welfare of the peoples of South Asia and to improve their living standards; to accelerate economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region; to promote peace and stability in the region; to develop friendly relations among the member states; and to cooperate with other developing countries.<\/p>\n<p>SAARC has been successful in promoting economic cooperation among its member states. It has also been successful in promoting cultural understanding and cooperation among its member states.
