Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed.<\/p>\n<p>Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed was the third President of India. He was elected to the office on 20 August 1974 and served until his death on 11 February 1977. He was the first President of India to die in office.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed was born in 1905 in the village of Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh. He studied law at the Aligarh Muslim University and then at the University of London. After returning to India, he joined the Indian National Congress and became a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi.
