Zafar Khan, also known as Muzaffar Shah I, was the founder of the Gujarat Sultanate. He was a Turk who came to India in the service of Alauddin Khalji. He rose to prominence under the reign of Muhammad bin Tughluq, and was appointed governor of Gujarat in 1391. In 1396, he declared himself independent and founded the Gujarat Sultanate. He ruled until his death in 1411.
