Arun Kumar was born in a small village in Bihar. He did his schooling from a local school and then went on to study at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. After completing his engineering degree, he joined the Indian Police Service in 1988.
Arun Kumar has served in various capacities in the Indian Police Service. He has been posted in different states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. He has also served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
