The reactivity of metals with dilute acids like HCl to displace hydrogen depends on the position of the metal in the reactivity series. Metals higher in the series are more reactive. The standard reactivity series (based on standard electrode potentials) places these metals in the order of decreasing reactivity as Mg > Al > Zn > Fe > H. Therefore, their reactivity with HCl follows the same order: Mg > Al > Zn > Fe.
