Option C, “Putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt,” is an essential ingredient of the offence of *robbery* (Section 390 IPC), not simple theft. Theft becomes robbery when, in committing theft, the offender voluntarily causes or attempts to cause to any person death or hurt or wrongful restraint, or fear of instant death or instant hurt or instant wrongful restraint.
