The Preamble to the Constitution of India was amended only once, by the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1976. This amendment inserted three new words/phrases into the Preamble: ‘Socialist’, ‘Secular’, and ‘Integrity’. The phrase ‘Unity of the Nation’ was also changed to ‘Unity and Integrity of the Nation’.
