SIMBEX (Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise) is an annual bilateral naval exercise. In 2019 (SIMBEX-19), which took place in the South China Sea, Indian Naval Ships Kolkata (a guided-missile destroyer) and Shakti (a fleet support ship/tanker) participated along with other Indian Navy assets. The modern INS Vikrant (India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier) was commissioned much later, in 2022.
