The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a scheme implemented in collaboration with Panchayats, Municipalities, and State Governments. The scheme aims to provide affordable housing to all Indians by 2022.

Panchayats are local self-government institutions in rural areas. They are responsible for providing basic services to the people, such as water, sanitation, and education. Municipalities are local self-government institutions in urban areas. They are responsible for providing basic services to the people, such as water, sanitation, roads, and electricity. State Governments are responsible for the overall development of their states. They are responsible for providing basic services to the people, such as education, health, and infrastructure.

The PMAY is a centrally sponsored scheme, which means that the central government provides funds to the states and union territories for implementation of the scheme. The states and union territories are responsible for implementing the scheme at the ground level. They do this by working with the panchayats, municipalities, and other local bodies.

The PMAY has four components:

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U): This component is for providing affordable housing to the urban poor.
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Rural (PMAY-R): This component is for providing affordable housing to the rural poor.
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G): This component is for providing affordable housing to the rural poor in the aspirational districts.
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS): This component is for providing interest subsidy to the middle-income group for purchasing a house.

The PMAY has been a successful scheme so far. It has helped to provide affordable housing to millions of Indians. The scheme has also helped to improve the quality of life of the people.
