The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme was initially launched in February 2019 to provide income support to small and marginal farmer families across the country, defined as those having a combined landholding of up to 2 hectares. While the scheme was later universalized in June 2019 to cover all farmer families irrespective of land size (subject to certain exclusions), the initial and often referenced landholding limit for the targeted beneficiaries was 2 hectares.PM-KISAN is a direct income support scheme for farmers.
