The Hamsa Award is conferred in the field of social welfare. It is a national award given by the Government of India to individuals and organizations for their outstanding contribution to social welfare. The award was instituted in 1992 and is given annually on the eve of Republic Day.
The award consists of a cash prize, a citation, and a memento. The cash prize is â¹5 lakh for individuals and â¹10 lakh for organizations. The citation is a letter of appreciation from the President of India. The memento is a plaque or a statuette.
