Smt Urmila Singh was the first woman Governor of Himachal Pradesh. She was appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh on 12th August 1993 and served till 11th August 1999. She was also the Governor of Rajasthan from 1999 to 2004.

Smt Urmila Singh was born on 1st January 1928 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. She was educated at the University of Allahabad and the University of Delhi. She was married to Shri Baldev Singh, who was a former Chief Minister of Punjab.

Smt Urmila Singh started her career as a teacher. She later joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1956. She served in various capacities in the IAS, including as the Secretary of the Ministry of Education and the Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
