Exercise Malabar 2020 was a naval exercise conducted in two phases. The first phase (Phase 1) was conducted from 03 to 06 November 2020 in the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Visakhapatnam. The second phase (Phase 2) was conducted in the Arabian Sea from 17 to 20 November 2020.
Exercise Malabar is a trilateral (originally India-USA-Japan) naval exercise that became quadrilateral in 2020 with the inclusion of Australia.
Visakhapatnam is the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy and is located on the east coast of India, bordering the Bay of Bengal. This makes it a suitable location for naval exercises conducted in the Bay of Bengal.
