Bhagwat Dayal Sharma was the first Governor of Haryana. He was born on 14 December 1918 in village Bhadoi, Tehsil and District Jhajjar, Haryana. He was educated at the University of Punjab, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Political Science. He also studied law at the Government Law College, Lahore.
Sharma joined the Indian National Congress in 1942 and was actively involved in the freedom struggle. He was imprisoned several times by the British government. After independence, he held various ministerial positions in the Government of India. He was also the President of the Indian National Congress from 1972 to 1974.
